Apologies for cross-posting.
The Cognition and Language Lab/Project on Children’s Thinking at
Northwestern University, directed by Dr. Dedre Gentner, is seeking a
full-time lab manager to begin in the Summer of 2018. The lab manager will
coordinate research activities on learning and reasoning in adults and
children.
Candidates should have a strong interest in language and cognitive
development and in learning and reasoning, as well as a bachelor's degree
in a relevant discipline. Applicants must have at least two years of
experience in experimental psychology, cognitive science, education, or a
related field, as well as experience working with human subjects,
especially children, in an academic research environment.
Responsibilities include recruiting, training, and managing a team of
undergraduate assistants; performing and overseeing research-related
activities such as recruiting and scheduling participants, designing and
creating experimental stimuli, testing children and adults, and assisting
with data analysis and the preparation of research for publication; and
administrative duties, such as coordinating with local preschools and other
external organizations, cultivating a public lab presence (e.g., via
website, social media, newsletter, etc.), maintaining participant records,
purchasing equipment, and preparing applications for human subjects
approval.
The minimum commitment for this position is two years. The position is
ideal for a recent college graduate who would like to gain additional
research experience before applying to graduate school, but we also welcome
candidates who are interested in research and have other career
aspirations, and/or who wish to commit for longer. Salary and benefits are
commensurate with experience. To apply, please send a CV/resume and cover
letter to Amalia Ionescu (amaliaionescu at northwestern.edu).
