The Psychology Department <https://www.fandm.edu/psychology> at Franklin &
Marshall College <https://www.fandm.edu/> invites applications for a
tenure-track professorship beginning July 1, 2019. The rank will be
Assistant Professor or Instructor depending on qualifications. Applicants
should possess or be close to completing a doctorate degree. For a more
experienced candidate, appointment at the level of Associate Professor
(without tenure) with a shortened tenure clock may be possible.

We seek candidates whose research takes an interdisciplinary approach to
the mind or human experience, specialty area open. We are especially
interested in candidates who will contribute to the intellectual vibrancy
and diversity of the academic community through their research, teaching,
and service, and who are committed to engaging and inspiring our broadly
diverse undergraduate student population. Pursuant to the College’s vision
for cultivating an inclusive community, the search committee asks all
applicants to address in their teaching statement how their past and/or
potential contributions might serve to advance F&M’s commitment to teaching
and mentoring young people from a variety of personal experiences, values,
and worldviews that arise from differences of culture and circumstance.

The department is characterized by our commitment to excellence in
teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate will participate
in our interdisciplinary program with the Philosophy Department, the Scientific
and Philosophical Studies of Mind <https://www.fandm.edu/spm> (SPM)
program, by teaching courses related to their specialty area in the
Psychology Department; core courses in the SPM Program
<https://www.fandm.edu/spm/courses>; and courses that serve the
College's general
education curriculum, Connections
<https://www.fandm.edu/catalog/the-franklin-marshall-college-curriculum>.
Teaching load is 3/2. Our commitment to scholarship is reflected in our
work as active scholars in our disciplines and a focus on student research
including lab experiences throughout the curriculum. To obtain tenure and
promotion, the successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active
program of qualitative or quantitative research resulting in peer-reviewed
publications. The Psychology Department is seated in the Natural Science
Division of the College, and start-up funds and lab space are available to
support scholarly success. The successful candidate also will participate
in academic advising, service, and departmental citizenship as we work
together to advance the college's mission.

OPTIONAL CONSIDERATION FOR SUPPLEMENTAL APPOINTMENT AT F&M: The person
selected for this tenure-track position may also be considered for a
supplemental appointment as a Franklin & Marshall (Mellon) High Impact
Emerging Scholar. These are scholars who possess outstanding promise for
inspiring and supporting the educational development of underrepresented
minority students in a higher educational setting such as F&M. Selected
finalists that meet these additional qualifications, in addition to those
outlined by this ad, may be nominated by the department as a F&M (Mellon)
High Impact Emerging Scholar. If selected as a M/HIES, the person will
receive a two-year appointment (additional to the tenure-track appointment)
that begins as soon as the person joins the campus on the tenure-track.
The M/HIES program supports the acceleration of one's research trajectory
with a significantly reduced teaching load for two years along with
supportive mentoring to advance the scholar's research and professional
development. Candidates interested in being considered for nomination
should indicate their interest in their cover letter and highlight any
previous work in this area in their statements.
