Dear colleagues,
In the Language, Aging, and Knowledge Electrophysiology Lab—LAKELab
<https://sites.google.com/view/melissatroyer/home> at UNLV, we are using
EEG and behavioral methods to study the processes involved in the mind and
brain during real-time language comprehension. PhD students will receive
training in theory and best practices in collecting EEG/ERP data, training
in basic and advanced data analysis techniques, and mentorship and guidance
on developing projects relating to the lab's research. Our current research
centers on studying how variability in knowledge and experience relate to
predictive and memory processes during language comprehension as well as
how these processes change across the adult lifespan as knowledge accrues.
I am recruiting 1-2 PhD students to join the lab in Fall 2026. Our lab is a
part of the vibrant Psychology <https://www.unlv.edu/psychology> department
at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Students have the option of doing a
Ph.D. in Psychological and Brain Sciences
<https://www.unlv.edu/psychology/graduateprograms/phd-psychological> or
through the Interdisciplinary Program in Neuroscience
<https://www.unlv.edu/degree/phd-neuroscience>, depending on the path that
would work best for them (with primary differences relating to coursework
and milestones of the program rather than differences in research content).
Accepted PhD students receive guaranteed funding through research
assistantships, teaching assistantships, and/or teaching as instructor of
record. Accepted students will also receive mentorship on applying
for funding and will be encouraged to apply for national and
university-level fellowships. Applications may be submitted through the UNLV
Graduate College <https://www.unlv.edu/graduatecollege/futurestudents>. *The
deadline for applications is Dec. 1.*
I would love if you would share this information with interested students.
Prospective students are welcome to send me an email with questions about
applying (melissa.troyer at unlv.edu) and take a look at the lab's website
<https://sites.google.com/view/melissatroyer/home> (including a page
for prospective
students
<https://sites.google.com/view/melissatroyer/home/prospective-students_1>).
Best,
Melissa Troyer
