The 4th IEEE International Conference on Human-Machine Systems

CALL FOR PAPERS

The theme of the 4th ICHMS is “Trustworthy Human-Autonomy Teaming”. The
conference will cover progress and contributions on brain-inspired autonomous
systems at multiple scales, including cognitive science, engineering, and
design for safe and trusted human-autonomy teaming; technological aids for
verifiable artificial intelligence (AI) decisions; trust modeling, measures,
and management, and fundamental issues of trust and barriers to adoption of
AI-enabled autonomy in complex socio-technical systems. The organization of
ICHMS will include Regular Sessions, Special Sessions, Poster Sessions, and
Sessions focused on PhD student research. Accepted papers will be submitted
for inclusion into IEEE Xplore. ICHMS will be jointly held with the IEEE
International Defence Excellence and Security (IDEaS) Symposium 2024 with the
theme of “Best of Two Worlds: Human-AI Teaming for Effective Decision-Making”

1. Extended submission deadline: upon requests, the submission deadline has
been extended to Wednesday, 15 November, 2023.
2. Special Issue opportunity: selected papers accepted at ICHMS 2024 will have
the privileged opportunity to submit an extended version to a dedicated
Special Issue of the esteemed IEEE Transactions on Human-Machine Systems
(THMS). This is a significant venue to showcase your research to a broader
audience.
3. Online presentations: ICHMS 2024 will be a physical-first event, meaning
that we assume that attendees will be coming to the conference venue if
possible. Yet, we are planning to offer an option for remote participation
with the authors’ request and conference’s approval first (send your request
to General Chairs Dr. Ming Hou at ming.hou001 at gmail.com <mailto:ming.hou001 at gmail.com>
<mailto:ming.hou001 at gmail.com> and Prof Tiago Falk at tiago.falk at gmail.com <mailto:tiago.falk at gmail.com>
<mailto:tiago.falk at gmail.com>). This will provide an opportunity for authors
and participants who cannot travel to still submit and partake in the event.
Detailed requirements for online presentation will be provided around March
1st, 2024.
4. Accepted special sessions: Currently, there are 5 accepted Special Sessions
on different topics, prospective authors may look into them when you submit
manuscripts accordingly in EasyChair if suitable. Meanwhile, you can still
submit Special Session proposals.
5. Awards: there will be the Best Student and Best Paper Awards. PhD students
need to submit your manuscripts under PhD Track in EasyChair during your
submission.
