*PhD position in the Woolgar Lab, at the University of Cambridge’s Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit*

Interested in Language, AI and the Human Brain?

The Woolgar Lab, at the University of Cambridge’s Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit, is looking for a PhD candidate to explore the relationship between Machine Learning and the human brain.

Candidates should be enthusiastic, with a strong academic track record in a maths, computer science or similar STEM-related discipline, to masters level or equivalent. Good maths and programming abilities are essential. Experience in signal processing, statistics, and machine learning are desirable. Prior knowledge of neuroscience helpful, but not required.

Research will focus on the similarities and differences between current state-of-the-art AI and the human brain (in particular the processing of human speech and language).

For more detail, please contact Dr Alexandra Woolgar (alexandra.woolgar at mrc-cbu.cam.ac.uk<mailto:alexandra.woolgar at mrc-cbu.cam.ac.uk>) or Dr Andrew Thwaites (acgt2 at cam.ac.uk<mailto:acgt2 at cam.ac.uk>). Both welcome enquiries, and encourage interested applicants to reach out for a face-to-face discussion on the research aims of the group; the technologies involved; and the research areas open to the student.
