Maynooth University are seeking to recruit a postdoctoral researcher to join a project funded by the European Research Council to investigate the role of language in complex cognition, supervised by Professor Louise Connell.

The LANGBOOT project involves interdisciplinary research in experimental psychology, psycholinguistics, and cognitive modelling, in order to examine how language enhances the ability of the human mind to form and manipulate elaborate mental representations across a range of fundamental cognitive tasks.  The focus of this post will be to investigate the role of sensorimotor grounding and linguistic distributional statistics in creative conceptual processing. The successful candidate will be required to design and conduct online empirical studies, carry out data analysis, collaborate with other members of the research team, and contribute to conference dissemination and writing papers for publication.

Applicants should have a PhD in Psychology, Cognitive Science, or a related discipline. In addition, we require strong experimental skills, with research experience in psycholinguistic research methods and statistical analysis such as linear mixed models and hierarchical regression. Excellent academic writing skills are essential to this post, as is the ability to work both independently and within a team. Demonstrable research experience of data collection via online experiment platforms, or in the area of grounded cognition or linguistic distributional statistics, would be an advantage.

The starting date for the position is 04 January 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter, for a fixed-term period ending 31 May 2023. The post is full-time but we will consider applications for a minimum of 80% FTE. The hours of work are flexible.

Salary:
Post-doctoral Researcher: €39,132 – 45,157 per annum pro-rata (Point 1-6)
Senior Post-doctoral Researcher: €46,442 per annum pro-rata (Point 1)
