A Research Fellow position is available immediately for a project on
computational models of reading acquisition in multilingual contexts,
co-lead by Dr. Beth O’Brien (National Institutes of Education, Singapore)
and Dr. Luca Onnis (University of Genoa, Italy). The position is based in
Singapore.

*Research Fellow *Centre for Research in Child Development –
*NRF2016-SOL002-11*

The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the
position of Research Fellow on a 12-month contract at the Office of
Education Research (OER) Centre for Research in Child Development (CRCD).

*Project Title: How language mixes contribute to effective bilingualism and
biliteracy in Singapore*

*Project Introduction:* The project aims to investigate how early aural
language skills relate to the early stages of reading in bilingual
children, and how this relationship is influenced by home exposure to
different language mixes. We are seeking a highly motivated researcher with
interests and expertise in computational modelling of language acquisition
and literacy development, with a focus on multilingual contexts. The team
has already developed a suite of in-house computational tools for
simulating and analysing language and reading development, using linguistic
databases, and combining simulation with experimentation.

The successful applicant will be involved in the entire computational
pipeline, from conception to deliverables, including: programming and
testing neural network models, analysing multilingual corpora, running
statistical analyses, managing the IT side of things, including workflow in
the HPC. The applicant is expected to 'phase in’ the ongoing project by
continuing the coding of the existing tools. As such, applicants should be
well versed in Python, R, and acquaintance with Unix/Linux. Experience with
high-performance computing (HPC) environments and resource scheduling is
preferred.
