Avila University has a new Cognitive Science major starting in Fall 2020, and is searching for a VAP. Here is the job posting:



Position Available: Visiting Assistant Professor of Cognitive Science for a new Cognitive Science major.

Appointment Date: The appointment begins August 14, 2020.  This position is a 9-month appointment with possibilities for transition to a tenure-track position.

Responsibilities:
*         Teach 24 credit hours per academic year in the major (Introduction to Cognitive Science, Readings in Cognitive Science, and other courses in the candidate's area of expertise.)
*         Advise Cognitive Science majors.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess a commitment to teach and work in a university environment, and a desire to engage both undergraduate students and the community.

Required Qualifications:
*         Ph.D. in Cognitive Science. A broad area of expertise is open (e.g. philosophy, computer science, psychology, linguistics, decision sciences, machine learning).
*         Experience teaching at the university level with record of excellence in teaching.
*         Scholarship in the candidate's area of interest, with an interest in mentoring students. Research facilities including lab space, software, and equipment are available.

Responsibilities:
*         Teach 24 credit hours per academic year in the major (Introduction to Cognitive Science, Readings in Cognitive Science, and other courses in the candidate's area of expertise.)
*         Advise Cognitive Science majors.

Application Information: Application review begins immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Applicants for the position should submit a cover letter, CV, statement of teaching philosophy, and contact information for three recommenders. Candidates are also encouraged to submit supplementary material such as recent publications and research statements.
