Assistant Professor in Cognitive Psychology

The Department of Psychological Science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking candidates in the area of cognition for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant professor. Required qualifications: Candidates must hold a PhD degree in Psychology, Cognitive Science, or a closely related field at the time of appointment; a strong record of research commensurate with rank; an ability to teach and mentor a diverse student population at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Finalists will be asked during their screening interview to discuss how the topics of diversity and inclusion are incorporated into their teaching and research. Preferred qualifications: A track record of publication and external funding for research in cognitive psychology; evidence of teaching effectiveness in courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels.

The candidate will have joint teaching and research responsibilities in the Department of Psychological Science and the Cognitive Science program. Housed in the Department of Psychological Science, the Cognitive Science Program (http://cognisci.uncc.edu) is an interdisciplinary program involving faculty from the departments of Psychological Science, Computer Science, English[Linguistics], and Philosophy. The Department of Psychological Science, which has one of the most popular undergraduate majors on campus, offers B.S. and M.A. (with cognitive track) degrees in psychology and participates in an APA accredited Ph.D. program in Health Psychology and a Ph.D. program in Organizational Science. The position will benefit from UNC Charlotte’s Data Science Initiative, which emphasizes data science in education, research and industry collaboration.

UNC Charlotte is a rapidly growing doctoral-granting urban university located in the largest metropolitan area between Washington DC, and Atlanta. The University is a Carnegie Foundation Community Engagement campus. Close to 29,000 culturally diverse students currently are enrolled at the University. As the largest college at UNC Charlotte, the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences houses 20 departments in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, and natural sciences, as well as 25 applied research centers and interdisciplinary programs. It offers eight doctoral degrees, 36 master's degrees and graduate certificates, and 32 undergraduate degrees.
