applications for a tenure-track professorship beginning July 1, 2020.
Applicants must either possess or be close to completing a doctorate degree.
The rank will be Assistant Professor or Instructor depending on

candidates who will contribute to the intellectual vibrancy and diversity of
the academic community through their research, teaching, and service, and who
are committed to engaging and inspiring our broadly diverse undergraduate

meaningfully to the Psychology Department’s interdisciplinary program with the
Philosophy Department, the<a href="https://www.fandm.edu/spm"><span style="color:rgb(39,124,173)"> Scientific and Philosophical Studies of Mind</span></a> (SPM)
program. Research specialization area is open; however, the candidate must be
competent to teach and mentor undergraduate students in cognitive science. The
candidate will be expected to offer upper-level courses related to their
specialty area in Psychology; <a href="https://www.fandm.edu/spm/courses"><span style="color:rgb(39,124,173)">core courses in the SPM Program</span></a> (i.e., SPM100 and/or SPM499); and courses that serve the College's<a href="https://www.fandm.edu/catalog/the-franklin-marshall-college-curriculum"><span style="color:rgb(39,124,173)"> general education curriculum, Connections</span></a>.
Teaching load is 3/2. The search committee asks all applicants to submit a
separate “SPM statement” of 250 to 500 words explaining their potential for
contribution to the Cognitive Science portion of the SPM program. The SPM
statement should convey how the candidate would endeavor to integrate questions
and insights that animate both Philosophy and Psychology and how they would
prepare students for upper-level Psychology courses and lower-level Philosophy
courses (e.g., Philosophy of Mind). </span></p>

evidence for an active research program that will contribute to the Psychology
Department’s robust commitment to scholarship. All members of the department
are engaged scholars, and our coursework emphasizes student research, including
lab experiences, across the curriculum. To secure tenure and promotion, the
candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of qualitative or quantitative
research resulting in peer-reviewed publications. The Psychology Department is
seated in the Natural Science Division of the College, and start-up funds and
laboratory space are available to support a research program. </span></p>

position may also be considered for a supplemental appointment as a Franklin
& Marshall (Mellon) High Impact Emerging Scholar.  These are scholars
who possess outstanding promise for inspiring and supporting the educational
development of underrepresented minority students in a higher educational
setting such as F&M.  Selected finalists that meet these additional
qualifications, in addition to those outlined by this ad, may be nominated by
the department as an F&M (Mellon) High Impact Emerging Scholar. If selected
as a M/HIES, the person will receive a two-year appointment (simultaneous with
the tenure-track appointment) that begins as soon as the person joins the
campus.  The M/HIES program supports the acceleration of one's research
trajectory with a significantly reduced teaching load for two years along with
supportive mentoring to advance the scholar's research and professional
development. Candidates interested in being considered for nomination should
indicate their interest in their cover letter and should highlight relevant
experience where appropriate within their teaching, SPM, and research
