[CogSci] Reminder: Twelfth Model-Based Neuroscience and Cognition Summer School in Amsterdam

Dear colleagues,

There are still a few spots available for the Twelfth Model-Based Neuroscience and Cognition Summer School, which will take place from 10–14 August 2026 at the University of Amsterdam.

The Summer School will provide participants with hands-on experience in state-of-the-art cognitive modeling techniques. Participants will also learn how to integrate these methods with experimental and theoretical neuroscience research. The program further covers advanced modeling techniques for capturing behavior in complex and dynamic paradigms.

In the first days, participants are introduced to evidence-accumulation models (EAMs) and stop-signal models using Bayesian (hierarchical) estimation. Building on this foundation, we will guide participants through advanced techniques, including:
1. Combining reinforcement learning and trend models with EAMs
2. Creating brain-behavior joint models of EEG/fMRI and EAMs
3. Combining psychometric models, such as structural equation models, with EAMs
4. Bayesian simulation-based neural posterior estimation using BayesFlow

The Summer School is open to applicants at the PhD level or above, who wish to learn the fundamentals of Bayesian cognitive modeling, extend these foundations to more advanced techniques, and explore how to combine these approaches with neuroscience.

The program includes a series of lectures and hands-on tutorial from experts, including Andrew Heathcote, Dora Matzke, Birte Forstmann, Stefan Radev, Steven Miletić, Michael Nunez, Udo Böhm, Sarah Kemp, and Niek Stevenson.

Application and registration
The registration fee for the Summer School is € 600. Participants should make their own housing arrangements. Space is limited, therefore we ask participants to provide a statement of interest. We will select participants based on the relevance of the Summer School to their research. Participants should be familiar with general programming concepts and state in their statement of interest which programming languages and software packages they typically use. Familiarity with R is particularly recommended.
