Dear all,
We invite applications for a *fully funded four-year PhD position* in
Cognitive Neuroscience at Adam Mickiewicz University (AMU, PI: Rafał
Jończyk), Poznań, Poland.
The successful candidate will join an exciting research project
investigating the *neural mechanisms underlying creative idea generation
and evaluation in bilinguals*, combining behavioral methods with
cutting-edge neurophysiological techniques. The project aims to advance our
understanding of how bilingual experience influences creative cognition and
the brain processes that support the generation and evaluation of novel
ideas.
*Project description and recruitment details*:
https://usosirk.amu.edu.pl/en-gb/offer/SD-2026/programme/SD-JZ-G3/?from=field:DS010104N
*The project will investigate such questions as:*
• How does the brain generate creative ideas?
• Does bilingual experience influence creative cognition?
• What neural mechanisms support the evaluation of novel and useful ideas?
• Can neural markers predict creative performance?
The project will be carried out at the *Psychophysiology of Language and
Affect (PoLA) Lab* (*PI: Rafał Jończyk*) at Adam Mickiewicz University (
https://pola.amu.edu.pl/) in collaboration with *Prof. Guillaume
Thierry* (*Bangor
University, UK*). The PhD candidate will have opportunities for
international collaboration and research visits.
The PoLA Lab is part of the Cognitive Neuroscience Center:
https://neuroscience.amu.edu.pl/. The lab is equipped with state-of-the-art
psychophysiological research infrastructure, including two 64-channel
BioSemi EEG systems (with GSR sensors) enabling dual-EEG/hyperscanning
studies in adjacent testing booths. Additional facilities include access to
eye-tracking, fNIRS, tDCS, and TMS.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant and collaborative research
team at the intersection of language, emotion, creativity, and cognitive
neuroscience. We maintain active collaborations with researchers in Poland
and abroad and foster a supportive atmosphere for developing an independent
research profile.
*The PhD candidate will receive advanced training in:*• EEG methodology and
analysis
• Experimental design
• Statistical modeling and data analysis
• Scientific communication and publishing
• Open science practices
*We welcome applications from candidates with a background in:*• Psychology
• Cognitive Neuroscience
• Cognitive Science
• Linguistics
• Neuroscience
• Related disciplines
Experience with EEG, experimental research, statistics, or programming
(e.g., R, Python, MATLAB) is desirable but not required. We are primarily
looking for highly motivated candidates with strong analytical skills and a
keen interest in creativity, language, and brain function.
The successful candidate will join the AMU Doctoral School:
https://usosirk.amu.edu.pl/en-gb/offer/SD-2026/programme/SD-JZ-G3/
*Conditions*
• *Planned start date*: October 15, 2026 (a later start is possible)
• *Duration*: 48 months
• *Scholarship*: approximately 5,000 PLN gross/month (ca. 3,780 PLN net)
before the mid-term evaluation and 6,500 PLN gross/month (ca. 4,953 PLN
net) after successful completion of the mid-term evaluation
• Funding includes conference participation and research travel
• Additional funding opportunities are available through internal AMU
grants and national funding schemes (e.g., National Science Centre grants)
*Application Deadline*: September 4, 2026
