This is a call for commentaries, to be published in Computational Brain and Behaviour<https://link.springer.com/journal/42113> as part of a special issue. The special issue is focussed on a target article written by Rich Shiffrin, Stephen Stigler, and Frank Keil (Illusions of Understanding in the Sciences<https://osf.io/preprints/psyarxiv/37ps8_v1>). This article has generated quite a bit of debate, and it is my hope that the debate can be captured in a special issue. The structure of the issue will be similar to the one used by Behavioural and Brain Sciences<https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/behavioral-and-brain-sciences>: the target article will be followed by a collection of short comments, and then the authors of the target article will respond to the comments in a final article.

If you are interested in contributing a commentary, please let me know. Commentaries can focus on narrow aspects of the target article, or comment more broadly on the topic. Some will provide substantive criticism, others may extend or re-interpret the target article. They should be no more than 1000 words in length, and must be submitted by February 16th 2026. To submit a commentary, use the regular submission portal for the journal <https://link.springer.com/journal/42113> (click “Submit your manuscript”, and then nominate “Illusions of Understanding” when prompted for a Collection or Special Issue during the submission process). You can invite co-authors as you see fit, or also send this invitation to others you think might be interested. Commentaries will be peer reviewed, including by the authors of the target article.

Scott (with apologies for cross-postings).
