[CogSci] ESLP 2026 - Embodied and Situated Language Processing

Dear colleagues,

We are excited to announce that Embodied and Situated Language Processing (ESLP) conference 2026 will take place 29–31 July in Lancaster, UK.

This year's theme addresses a critical frontier: how do we ground abstract concepts, and what can the rise of Large Language Models tell us about whether embodiment is necessary for language understanding?

Keynote speakers:
- Evelina Fedorenko (MIT)
- Sotaro Kita (University of Warwick)
- Marianna Bolognesi (University of Bologna)

We welcome submissions on:
- The grounding of abstraction (metaphor, affect, social interaction)
- Embodiment vs. LLMs: what disembodied AI reveals about cognition
- Neural mechanisms supporting situated-to-abstract transitions
- Gesture and multimodality in abstract reasoning

Key dates:
- Abstract submission opens: 26 January 2026
- Submission deadline: 3 May 2026
- Notification: 29 May 2026
- Registration: 19 July 2026
