Dear colleagues,
We’re excited to announce the launch of the Childhood and AI Lab and its
associated Research Fellowship Program, which will open for applications
on November 5, 2025 at www.ai4childsafety.org .
As AI rapidly transforms how children learn, think, and relate to the
world, we face an urgent need for research, safety standards, and
governance frameworks to ensure these changes strengthen rather than
diminish human capacities. The Childhood and AI Lab will fill this gap
by uniting researchers, policymakers, educators, and technologists
around evidence-based approaches to AI and child development.
The Research Fellowship Program unites scholars across disciplines to
explore AI’s impact on children’s learning, attention, creativity,
identity, and social relationships. Fellows will gain opportunities for
collaboration, visibility, and policy engagement, with flexible
participation (approximately 2–4 hours per month). We also aim to offer
stipends in the near future.
We especially welcome applications from:
Early-career researchers (recent master’s graduates or Ph.D. students)
studying AI’s effects on children
Mid-career and senior researchers interested in how their fields
intersect with AI and child development
AI experts seeking to apply technical expertise to understanding
children’s interactions with AI systems
Established researchers already focused on AI and child development
We invite you to share this opportunity with your community.
