PhD opportunity at the Liverpool Language Lab – Apply via the Doctoral Academic Teacher Scheme

We are excited to welcome expressions of interest from prospective PhD candidates who would like to apply for a funded part-time PhD training post within the Psychology Department at the University of Liverpool, through the current Doctoral Academic Teacher (DAT) scheme.

The Liverpool Language Lab investigates how children acquire language, how the developing brain supports this process, and how it is shaped by cross-linguistic, socio-cultural, and individual variation. We study how children segment speech, learn words and concepts, acquire grammar, and how these processes are supported by their environment. Our methods are cross-disciplinary and include corpus analysis, behavioural experiments, computational modelling, eye-tracking, and EEG, with a strong emphasis on theory-driven research and developmental language disorders.

PhD candidates may apply to work with any of the lab’s permanent members:

  *
Professor Julian Pine (https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/people/julian-pine)
  *
Dr Perrine Brusini (https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/people/perrine-brusini)
  *
Dr Chi-hsin (Esther) Chen (https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/people/chi-hsin-chen)
  *
Dr Andrew Jessop (https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/people/andrew-jessop)

The successful DAT candidate will join a small, collaborative team comprising four permanent academic staff and a group of postgraduate students and postdocs. Our lab is within the Psychology department, with opportunities for intellectual exchange through journal clubs, seminars, and lab meetings.
