The Social-Cognitive Science Lab at Simon Fraser University (PI: Sally Xie) in Vancouver, Canada invites applications for a full-time Lab Manager and Research Specialist, to begin Spring/Summer 2025 (start date flexible). The position is for one year with possibility of renewal. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

I am looking for applicants interested in studying social cognition using a variety of methods (e.g., behavioral experiments, 'big data' archival analysis, longitudinal field studies, computational modeling, narrative analysis). Some of the lab's current research projects investigate how people perceive others and themselves in diverse contexts, and how transformative experiences dynamically shape adult identity development. Please see https://socosci.com to learn more.

The incoming Lab Manager and Research Specialist (aka LAB WIZARD) will help set up infrastructure and contribute to research. Specific responsibilities include: (1) lab management (e.g., management of ethics review, equipment purchasing, organizing lab meetings and events, maintaining lab websites and digital infrastructures); (2) developing research materials and programming experiments; (3) collecting human subjects data for behavioral and online studies; (4) analyzing behavioral and web scraped data; and (5) recruiting and managing undergraduate research assistants.

The position is an excellent opportunity to gain multidisciplinary research experience. The ideal candidate will be interested in ultimately pursuing graduate study in psychology, cognitive science, computational social science, data science, or a related field. The Lab Wizard will work closely with me to ‘learn on the job’ how to conduct research, review literature, collect and analyze data, and communicate their results—and hopefully, in the process, discover if they enjoy this kind of work.

The following qualifications are essential:
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent in psychology, cognitive science, data science, computer science, statistics, or related field.
* Excellent organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail.
* Excellent interpersonal communication skills and experience working on a team.
* Prior research experience and knowledge of research principles in psychology, neuroscience, cognitive science, or related field.
* Eligibility to work in Canada (unfortunately, we are unable to sponsor new visas for international applicants this hiring cycle).

The following qualifications are highly desirable but not required:
* Strong statistical, programming, or web development skills (e.g., R, Python, Javascript).
* Prior experience with data science methods (e.g., web scraping, data cleaning and manipulation, applied machine learning, natural language processing).
* Strong time management skills.
* Prior experience with web or smartphone application development.

To apply for the position, please review the job listing on our lab website and complete the application:

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and continue until the position is filled. I will begin reviewing applications on February 20, 2025.
