The Department of Cognitive Science at Johns Hopkins University seeks candidates for two tenured/tenure-track positions: one in high-level vision and one in language. Applications will be considered until the positions are filled. Priorities will be given to applications received by January 15, 2026.
High-Level Vision Position: We seek candidates for a tenured/tenure-track faculty position in the areas of high-level vision, written language, and/or conceptual representation. The Department seeks candidates who conduct experimental research, especially those whose work incorporates developmental, cognitive neuropsychological and/or cognitive neuroscientific approaches. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to collaboration. The JHU Department of Cognitive Science is a highly interdisciplinary department that has extensive interactions with related departments, including Computer Science, Psychological and Brain Sciences, Philosophy, Neuroscience, and Neurology. Language Position: The Department of Cognitive Science at Johns Hopkins University seeks candidates for a tenured / tenure-track faculty position in language using approaches such as theoretical linguistics, language development/acquisition, fieldwork, psycholinguistics, and neurobiology of language. The department seeks candidates with cutting-edge research programs in any area of linguistic investigation (including morphology, phonetics, phonology, pragmatics, prosody, semantics, sign/speech perception, syntax, or typology). Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring, to collaboration with members of the department and related departments or centers (Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Philosophy, and Psychological & Brain Sciences), and to engagement with university-wide initiatives in AI and Neuroscience. For both positions, we anticipate hiring at the Associate Professor or Professor rank, but will also consider exceptional candidates at the Assistant Professor stage, especially those nearing completion of their tenure review. All appointees at the Associate and Full Professor level are expected to be pre-eminent experts in their field. All candidates should be committed to both research and teaching excellence. All appointees are expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate level.
