I am looking to fill a 1-year *in person* position on an ongoing NSF-funded
study of children's understanding (and learning of) intuitive physics. We
will be testing children 2-7 years old on a range of tasks testing their
understanding, with the goal of systematically addressing some
inconsistencies/puzzles in the literature. For some context, check out:
Hartshorne, J. K., & Jing, M. (2025). Insights into cognitive mechanics
from education, developmental psychology and cognitive science. *Nature
Reviews Psychology*, 1-15.
The position could be at the post-bac or post-doc level. Part of the goal
of this position is to facilitate collaboration on this topic with Laura
Schulz and Joshua Tenenbaum at MIT, so there will be opportunities to
interact with those teams.
Primary responsibility is testing children (our sample size is large).
Additional activities may include experimental design, analysis, and
manuscript-writing, depending on interests and abilities. The lab employs
advanced analytics such as Bayesian nonparametrics and Monte Carlo
simulation, so there is opportunity to gain/develop facility with such
methods.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Prior experience in behavioral or cognitive research with children.
- (for Post-Bac) an undergraduate degree
- (for Post-Doc) a Ph.D. or equivalent
Fill out an initial application at:
https://forms.gle/3vqQA3dZhqt4EwvJ7
Review will begin immediately. The position will start as soon as possible
but not later than January 1st.
