*Annual Symposium of the Society for Language Development *

*Neural Coding in Speech, Language and Cognition*

Held prior to the Boston University Conference on Language Development
(BUCLD)

1:00 – 6:00pm, Thursday November 7, 2024

George Sherman Union, Boston University, 775 Commonwealth Ave, Boston, MA
02215

How is language encoded in the brain? This year’s SLD Symposium brings
together leaders in the study of the neural coding of speech, language and
cognition. Attendees will hear about recent advances in the use of human
brain recording and neural stimulation as humans hear and produce speech.
This work has important implications for our understanding of how the brain
forms and maintains generalizations about speech and language, including
phonological and lexical encoding. There will be three presentations:

*Neural Algorithms of Speech Comprehension*

Laura Gwilliams <https://psychology.stanford.edu/people/laura-gwilliams>,
Ph.D. *(Stanford Univ.): *

*Causal Parametric Mapping of Language with Direct Electrical Stimulation*

Brad Mahon
<https://www.cmu.edu/dietrich/psychology/directory/core-training-faculty/mahon-brad.html>,
Ph.D. *(Carnegie Mellon Univ.) *

*The Neural Representation of Auditory Word Form*

Edward Chang <https://changlab.ucsf.edu/>, M.D. *(Univ. of California, San
Francisco): *

Registration for SLD Society members is $25 ($10 for students) and for
non-members is $60 ($25 for students). Registration can be done in person
the day of the symposium.

To become an SLD Society member click here
<https://web.sas.upenn.edu/societyforlanguagedevelopment/>. To register
for the SLD Symposium click here <https://www.bu.edu/bucld/registration/>.
At the registration site, you can also register for the BUCLD conference
but this is not required to attend the SLD symposium.
