Hi all,

[ Desmond will be at CogSci next week and will be happy to chat with people who have questions. Contact: desmond.ong at utexas.edu ]

I'm pleased to share that the Department of Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin will be having a search in "Natural Behavior and Computation" this Fall. It's open-area (not bound to any one area), and "half-open" rank (assistant professor through tenured associate).

[ Desmond’s personal commentary before the official job posting below:
Basically, we're interested in researchers that do cool research with naturalistic data (e.g., eye tracking with natural scenes; fMRI or other imaging of people perceiving naturalistic stimuli; natural language techniques applied to social media / internet data; social interactions in real social networks; physio or mobile sensing for sampling real life behavior; etc etc). I believe many of you / your colleagues may be interested in this. ]

Deadline: October 15, 2024

Description
The Department of Psychology at The University of Texas at Austin seeks a productive scholar whose research will complement existing departmental strengths in the area of Natural Behavior and Computation. The ideal candidate will develop an active, independent research program that leverages the expanding opportunities for high-density behavioral data to be collected in everyday environments and computational approaches to understanding these rich datasets. This critical mass of expertise is well-situated to provide early career mentorship and excellent collaborative opportunities. As well, the Department recently launched a new college-wide major in Behavioral and Social Data Science (BSDS), the first undergraduate degree program in the country devoted to producing data-science-ready graduates with a solid understanding of human psychology.
