PhD Position / Computational Cognitive Vision (with scholarship)

We seek motivated PhD candidates with a strong interest in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, and Human-Centred Computing. The project focuses on developing computational models of neurosymbolic learning and reasoning for visual sensemaking. The position will be based at Constructor University Bremen (formerly Jacobs University), Germany.

# ABOUT THE PROJECT: COGNITIVE VISION

The PhD project aims to advance the area of Cognitive Vision (https://codesign-lab.org/cognitive-vision/). The primary objective is to develop general methods for processing and semantic interpretation of dynamic visuo-spatial imagery (e.g., videos and other sensor data, human behavioural data). A particular emphasis is on the ability to abstract, learn, and reason with cognitively rooted structured characterisations of commonsense knowledge pertaining to space and motion. The general aim of this research is to integrate techniques from AI and Knowledge Representation and Reasoning with Computer Vision methods, e.g., to facilitate commonsense visual reasoning and sensemaking.
