The University of California President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
was established in 1984 to encourage outstanding women and minority Ph.D.
recipients to pursue academic careers at the University of California. The
current program offers postdoctoral research fellowships, professional
development and faculty mentoring to outstanding scholars in all fields
whose research, teaching, and service will contribute to diversity and
equal opportunity at UC.

If interested in developmental psychology, UC Berkeley’s faculty members in
the area investigate numerous areas of development, plasticity, and change
including sensory processes, cognitive capacities, language, reasoning,
everyday knowledge of the world, emotions, and social relationships. They
also examine both typical and atypical development, each providing rich
insights for better understanding the other and suggesting new approaches
for effective treatments and preventive interventions.

Prospective applicants should contact faculty members they’re interested in
working with. Please see the UC Berkeley developmental labs website
<https://www.devlabs.berkeley.edu/> to learn more about the research going
on in the area.

Generally, applicants may apply for a Postdoctoral Fellowship at one or
more of the institutions listed including UC Berkeley. However, Applicants
may apply to only one University of California campus or UC-affiliated
National Lab. Applicants applying to multiple institutions must submit a
research proposal for each institution and identify a faculty mentor for
each institution. The research proposals may be the same or may differ. The
application and research proposal will be evaluated through independent
reviews at each institution.

Eligibility

Applicants must hold or receive a Ph.D. or terminal degree in their
discipline (JD, MD, MFA, DVM, EdD, etc.) from an accredited university
before the start of their fellowship.

Successful applicants must present documents demonstrating that they are
legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship and work
authorization is possible for successful applicants through a process which
would be managed by the International Students and Scholars Office with the
support of the UC faculty mentor on their home campus. Individuals granted
deferred action status under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals
program are encouraged to apply.

The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action
Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for
employment without regard to age, race, color, religion, sex, sexuality,
gender identity, national origin, ethnicity, disability status, protected
veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.

The online application for the next award cycle is available each year from
September through October. However, the application deadline for this year
is Wednesday, November 1st while the reference/letter of recommendation
date is Friday, December 1st. To apply, please visit
