[CogSci] Post-doctoral position in socioeconomic variation in language learning

Dr. Yi Ting Huang of the University of Maryland (UMD) and Dr. Roger Levy of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are seeking to hire a post-doctoral researcher to work on a collaborative initiative funded by the NSF: "Syntactic processing across socioeconomic status: Linking input to comprehension". This project examines how variation in learning environments impacts how children learn and use language. The post-doctoral researcher will develop and test computational methods for analyzing caregivers and children communication and relations between learning and processing. The position will be based at UMD, but theoretical and methodological training will be provided by both PIs through joint discussions and lab meetings and travel to MIT. 

The start date is July 1, 2024, with some flexibility. This position is for an initial period of one year with potential extension for an additional two years. One does NOT have to be a US Citizen to apply. 

QUALIFICATIONS: A PhD in computer science, linguistics, cognitive science, or related field by the start date is required. Desired expertise includes natural language processing, deep learning, linguistic theory, and Bayesian statistics.B ackground and/or interest in socioeconomic variation, language development, and communication is particularly relevant.
