Dear colleagues,

I am pleased to announce a position for a postdoctoral fellow to contribute to research on intellectual humility and polarization-a joint collaboration between Dr. Igor Grossmann (Wisdom and Culture lab) and Dr. Phil Tetlock from the University of Pennsylvania. The ideal candidate will have a background in social and personality psychology (or related discipline), strong statistical skills including longitudinal analysis, natural language processing, and psychometrics, and an interest in fostering intellectual humility and judgmental accuracy. The position will be housed at University of Waterloo (though remote work may be possible).

Applicants for the postdoc position must have a PhD in Psychology or related field and excellent writing and quantitative skills (incl. advanced proficiency in R). The successful candidate will work on a longitudinal forecasting tournament that aims to test how intellectual humility and belief polarization change over time, developing new methods based on natural language processing (NLP) techniques and behavioral indicators. The post-doc will be expected to conduct independent research, collaborate with other researchers in the project team, present findings at conferences and workshops, publish papers in high-impact journals, and contribute to grant applications. The post-doc will also have opportunities to mentor graduate and undergraduate students, participate in lab meetings and seminars, attend training workshops, and network with leading scholars in the field.
The position is funded for a year (with a possibility of extension), starting from September 2023 or earlier. The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The position is based at the University of Waterloo, Canada's most innovative university according to Maclean's magazine. Waterloo is a vibrant city with a high quality of life, located close to Toronto, Niagara Falls, and several national parks.

A competitive salary, including benefits, will be provided. Postdoctoral candidates who have their own funding may also apply. Participation in department-wide activities and collaborations will be encouraged, as applicable.
To apply for this position, please send your CV, a cover letter describing your research interests and fit for the position, two representative publications or preprints (in PDF format), and contact information for three references to Dr. Igor Grossmann at igrossma at uwaterloo.ca by May 1st 2023. Please use "IH Post-doc application" as the subject line of your email.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.
