Special Session Code: n57ag

We are pleased to invite you to submit original contributions to the Special Session on Situation-aware Cyber-Physical-Social Systems organized at IEEE SMC 2023 (Maui, Hawaii, 1-4 October 2023) https://ieeesmc2023.org/
Submission deadline: April 15, 2023
Notification to authors: May 20, 2023

Aim: Situation Awareness (SA) is defined as the perception of the elements of the environment within a volume of time and space, the comprehension of their meaning, and the projection of their status. The SA paradigm gracefully fits with modern cyber-physical-social systems (CPSS), human-machine systems (HMS), cognitive IoT, Edge, and wearable computing applications, which have sensing and reasoning capabilities and could show adaptive behaviors by predicting future development of recognized scenarios.
However, in the context of CPSS, the application of SA models and computational methods for cognitive systems is limited. There is a fundamental lack of systematic approaches for the development of CPSS, applications, and services able to transform users’ activities and contextual information into situations, thus predicting future impact to ultimately adapt their behavior according to user intentions.
The objective of this special session is therefore to provide a medium for researchers and practitioners to present emerging research results supporting the development of advanced, automatic situation awareness capabilities of CPSS, HMS, IoT, edge, and wearable computing systems, with a particular focus on the cognitive processes (perceptual, reasoning, decision-making, behavioral, etc.) that enable autonomous, self-aware CPSS to characterize the overall situation, evaluate the situation in terms of its goals, and do appropriate actions.

Topics will include, but are not limited to:
- Situation Awareness Computational Models for Cyber-Physical-Social Systems (CPSS)
- Collective Intelligence in Human-Machine Systems
-	Cognitive IoT, Edge and Wearable Computing Systems
- Situation-aware and self-aware Intelligent and Autonomous Systems
- Situational Big Data analysis
- Machine Learning for CPSS
- Expert systems deployment in CPSS domains

Special Issue Opportunity: Selected papers will be invited to be extended and submitted to the special issue on "Cognitive Situation Awareness and Management of Cyber-Physical-Social Systems” in the Journal of Cognitive Computation (Springer), IF 4.89, Scimago Q1 https://www.springer.com/journal/12559/updates/23979566

IEEE SMC 2023
IEEE SMC 2023 will be held on October 1–4, 2023, at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa on the beautiful island of Maui, Hawai’i. This year’s theme is “Improving the Quality of Life’. The conference will provide a stimulating forum for researchers, educators, and practitioners to learn, share knowledge, report the most recent innovations and developments, and exchange ideas and advances in all aspects of systems science and engineering, human-machine systems, and cybernetics. In addition to technical sessions, SMC 2023 will hold keynote addresses, tutorials, workshops, panel discussions, forums, exhibits, and receptions to enrich the fruitful discussions among conference attendees. We will do our best to make this event an intellectually stimulating and enjoyable experience.
