[CogSci] Open Position at University of Maryland: Full-time Research Assistant in Cognitive Neuroscience

The Laboratory for Integrative Cognition and Neuroscience (PI: Dr. Weizhen Xie [Zane]; https://www.icon-lab.org/) in the Department of Psychology at the University of Maryland (College Park, MD) is seeking a full-time Faculty Specialist (Research Assistant, RA) to work on studies examining memory and brain functions in a diverse population, including healthy adults across age groups as well as individuals with neurological and/or psychiatric conditions.

In this position, the RA will receive training in state-of-the-art behavioral research techniques (e.g., online crowdsourcing and computational modeling) and human neuroscience methods (e.g., intracranial/scalp EEG and fMRI) to study questions core to memory and cognition. As the RA gains experience with all components of the research process, it provides excellent preparation for one’s graduate studies. The RA's primary responsibilities will include:


  *   Data collection using behavioral, electrophysiological, neuroimaging, and brain stimulation techniques on the University of Maryland, College Park campus.


  *   Working with the staff at the University of Maryland Medical Center or at the National Institutes of Health to run study sessions that involve direct recordings of intracranial EEG data and computer-based behavior testing.


  *   Data management, analysis, and manuscript preparation.


  *   Lab administration including managing IRB protocols, participant recruitment and screening, and training other lab members.


  *   Perform other duties as assigned.

The expected start date for the position is Spring 2024, which is negotiable. A 2-year commitment is requested but can be adjusted based on the trainee’s progress. Application review will take place on a rolling basis until the position is filled.

Minimal Qualifications:


  *   Previous research experience in any field, a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, neuroscience, biology, biomedical engineering, computer science, or other related fields. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills are required.


  *   Preferred qualifications but not required:


  *   Interested in research on the neural bases of human behavior and cognition


  *   Prior research experience/rotation in Cognitive Psychology/Neuroscience


  *   Computational, statistical, and technical skills (e.g., fluency with Matlab, R, or Python)


  *   Demonstrate ability to work independently and support a team with great work ethics
