[CogSci] ASMP symposium after CogSci, 30th July: Socially influenced cognition

Dear members of the Cognitive Science Society,

The Australian Society for Mathematical Psychology
<https://mathpsych.org/affiliate/1> invites you to a satellite meeting, to
be held immediately after CogSci
<https://cognitivesciencesociety.org/cogsci-2023/> in Sydney in July 2023.

The symposium will showcase the research of leading Australian
psychological and cognitive scientists working on reasoning, communication,
and influence in online environments.
Topics will include:

   - Andrew Perfors <http://perfors.net/> & Keith Ransom
   <https://its.almostcertainly.me/>: *Sampling assumptions, inference, and
   effects on reasoning in social situations.*
   - Piers Howe
   <https://findanexpert.unimelb.edu.au/profile/340666-piers-howe>: *The
   Truth About “The Truth” - investigating the accuracy of fact-checking.*
   - Nicolas Fay
   <https://research-repository.uwa.edu.au/en/persons/nicolas-fay>:
*Manufacturing
   Misinformation: Are falsehoods more persuasive than truths?*
   - Carolyn Semmler
   <https://researchers.adelaide.edu.au/profile/carolyn.semmler>: *Mapping
   conversational trajectories of influence online through integration of
   large scale and fine-grained methods.*

Registration is *free *for the symposium, which will be held at the
historic Mint Museum <https://mhnsw.au/visit-us/the-mint/>.

The subsequent events offer a chance to explore Sydney and network further:

   - Nearby *lunch *(self-funded). Venue TBC but most likely This Way
   Canteen at the Museum of Sydney.

   - The *walking architecture tour* will be a 2-hour tour around Sydney
   Harbour and the city centre, led by a talented architect and academic.
   This will cost AUD $20 per person (self-funded; bring cash on the day).
   - We will finish up in a charming area called The Rocks
   <https://www.sydney.com/destinations/sydney/sydney-city/the-rocks> with
   the oldest (but still trendy) pubs in town, for *drinks and dinner*
   (self-funded).
