Research Coordinator, Language and Cognition Laboratory

The Language and Cognition Laboratory (Department of Linguistics) at the University of Pennsylvania is currently recruiting a full-time Research Coordinator position. The lab investigates how young children acquire language, how language interacts with early conceptual development, and how language is used and understood by more mature (adult) communicators. This position is a great opportunity for recent college graduates who would like full-time research experience prior to enrolling in a Ph.D. program in linguistics, cognitive or developmental psychology, cognitive science or related fields. Collaborative research opportunities with the P.I. and the research team are part of this position.

DUTIES:

The Research Coordinator will participate in all aspects of lab activities, including: initiating and maintaining contacts with schools, daycares, museums and other places where children will be recruited, designing and conducting experimental studies with children and adults in person and online, coding and analyzing data, performing library research, maintaining and ordering lab equipment and supplies, assisting with IRB procedures and reports, etc. He or she will also work closely with any undergraduate students in the lab and other lab members.

Target start date is July 1st (with some flexibility). This is a one year term appointment, with the possibility of renewal.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Requirements:

• B.A. or B.S. in linguistics, psychology, cognitive science, human development, or a related field with one to two years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Background and/or research experience in cognitive science, developmental psychology, or related fields.

• Interest in an organizational position with administrative responsibilities.

• Desire to learn about the topics studied by the lab group.

• Familiarity with research/statistics software and programs (e.g., R, SPSS, Excel, Power Point, Qualtrics) and/or programming skills are a plus.

• Maturity and willingness to work with young children and interact with parents and members of the community.
