The research project "Computational modeling of the predictive active self in situated action (COMPAS)" is part of the priority program "The Active Self" (SPP 2134) funded by the German Research Agency (DFG), and is conducted in collaboration of the TU Berlin (Prof. Nele Russwinkel) and the University of Bielefeld (Prof. Stefan Kopp).

In the first project phase of the SPP, the foundations were laid to investigate the sensorimotor and cognitive processes of self-assessment of one's own control when acting in uncertain situations. In addition to experimental paradigms, a first computer-based cognitive architecture was developed to explain the interaction between sensorimotor and cognitive processes of self-assessment and action control and to make this transferable to autonomous technical systems. In the subsequent second phase (2021-2024), the empirical investigations and modeling work will be extended in the direction of multisensory processing and task-specific learning in order to understand how people organize their actions in multi-task situations and what role their continuous self assessment plays in this.

We are seeking applications for two fully funded researcher (Ph.D.) positions for 3 years. One positions is located at the TU Berlin with a focus on modeling higher-level strategic cognitive processes, the other position is located at the University of Bielefeld with a focus on prediction-based embodied cognitive processes.
