Duolingo is looking for a multilingual language enthusiast with research
expertise in second and additional language learning, as well as hands-on
experience with language teaching. At Duolingo, you will have an

As one of the first hires at our new Berlin office, you will work closely
with a small-but-growing group of kind and passionate team members as new
and exciting challenges and opportunities arise. You will become a part of

in Europe.

*You Will...*

   - Collaborate cross-functionally to develop language learning app
   features that are fun, fast-paced, and emphasize “learning by doing”
   - Ensure that the app features are well-grounded in learning science by
   translating research findings into concrete ideas that can be applied
   within the Duolingo product requirements
   - Take the lead on curriculum or content development as needed for
   initial product explorations, including recruiting and working with
   external subject matter specialists
   - Provide hands-on support with any ad-hoc tasks that would benefit from
   a learning-expert perspective, such as user research or assessing user
   learning outcomes

*You Have...*

   - *Research expertise.* You specialize in research at the intersection
   of linguistics, cognitive psychology, and education as it applies to
   language learning and teaching.
   - *Teaching experience.* You have experience teaching foreign languages
   and understand the needs of learners from different language backgrounds.
   - *Language knowledge.* You know at least two languages other than
   English, preferably including Japanese or Chinese.
   - *Creativity and applied focus.* You can think creatively about how to
   effectively apply your knowledge in the context of developing an engaging
   educational app.
   - *Strong communication.* You have excellent interpersonal and
   communication skills.

*Requirements:*

   - Ph.D. in applied linguistics, second language acquisition,
   linguistics, learning sciences, cognitive psychology, or a related field
   - Ability to work full-time from or relocate to Berlin, Germany

*Exceptional Candidates Will Have...*

   - Experience working in industry, especially in educational technology
   - Knowledge of one or more languages with non-Roman writing systems,
   such as Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Arabic, Hebrew, or Hindi
