The Memory at Emory laboratory in the Department of Psychology, Emory University (http://Scholarblogs.emory.edu/bauerlab/), directed by Dr. Patricia Bauer, seeks a full-time laboratory coordinator, Research Specialist. The Research Specialist will assist with studies of the development of episodic and semantic memory, in school-age children. The laboratory makes use of behavioral measures, eye tracking, and event-related potential (ERP) methods. Duties include contributing to study design, creating experimental stimuli, testing participants, managing data, and assisting with data analysis. There also are administrative duties including assisting with participant recruitment and training and supervising undergraduate research assistants. Coordinators also have the opportunity to attend and present the work of the laboratory at scientific conferences and to contribute to preparation of scientific publications.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  *   Under general supervision, performs a variety of defined research and laboratory tests and experiments according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules.
  *   Sets up experiments as prescribed by a principal investigator.
  *   May be required to participate in laboratory maintenance activities such as sterilization and cleaning of equipment, ordering of supplies, inventory and media preparation.
  *   Maintains records, files and logs of work performed in laboratory notebooks and computer databases.
  *   Compiles data and records results of studies for publications, grants and seminar presentations.
  *   Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.
  *   Performs related responsibilities as required by principal investigator.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in a scientific field OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Psychology or related field as well as previous research experience using behavioral, and/or electrophysiological methods. Experience managing research projects; previous experience working with children; the ability to work independently; keen attention to detail; and the ability to interact warmly and professionally with parents and children. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential. Computer skills should include knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and statistical software (such as SPSS, SAS, or R programming).
