PURDUE UNIVERSITY

Brian Lamb School of Communication

Organizational Communication with a Focus in Data Science

Assistant or Associate Professor

The Brian Lamb School of Communication at Purdue University invites applications for the

following position in one of their signature areas, Organizational Communication:

Purdue University is the home of organizational communication where the W. Charles Redding

traditions run deep. Those traditions have been the backbone of organizational communication,

its growth, and expansion nationally and internationally. The enduring impact of Purdue’s

program can be seen in the numerous research publications of its faculty, graduate students, and

alums, which grace the pages of the most notable journals. It can also be seen in the engagement

programs of its faculty such as the Purdue Peace Project. And one can see it in the classroom as

we educate local students as well as serve one of the largest international student populations in

the country.

We are seeking a scholar to capitalize upon our traditional strength of organizational

communication with approaches from innovative topic and methodological areas such as

environmental risk and resilience; networks, innovation, and social interaction;

computational social science and decision making; multi-team systems; design thinking;

and organizational processes and dynamics. Desirable scholars could utilize cutting edge

modeling techniques such as advanced network analysis modeling, text mining, big data

approaches, or Bayesian statistics. The faculty will benefit from and have opportunities to

collaborate with very established centers devoted to environmental risk and resilience, data

science, diversity and inclusion, policy research, and cyber security.

Tenure-track or tenured position, as Assistant or Associate Professor, to begin August 19, 2019. Ph.D. in communication or related discipline required. We are interested in applicants who have an active empirical research program and are involved in or plan to engage funding sources (grant and foundation). The ideal applicant will have experience in teaching and advising undergraduate and graduate students, will have advised M.A. theses and Ph.D. dissertations, and taught special topics in organizational communication and is open to exploring cutting-edge content in research and in the classroom. The successful candidate will be able to teach courses in her or his area of expertise, as well as courses that are part of the College of Liberal Arts’ Integrated Cornerstone first-year curriculum. Purdue University’s Brian Lamb School of Communication is committed to advancing diversity in all areas of faculty effort, including scholarship, instruction, and engagement. Candidates should address at least one of these areas in their cover letter, indicating their past experiences, current interests or activities, and/or future goals to promote a climate that values diversity and inclusion.

Screening of applications will begin on November 12, 2018, and will continue until the position is filled. A background check will be required for employment in this position. A complete

application includes: a letter of application, curriculum vitae, statement of research interests,

evidence of teaching effectiveness, no more than two publications, and names and contact

information of three references. Send application materials electronically to Allison Loy

(OrgCom18 at purdue.edu). Questions regarding the position or application process should be

directed to Dr. Torsten Reimer, Search Committee Chair, treimer at purdue.edu; 765 496 2765.

Purdue’s main campus is located in West Lafayette, Indiana, a welcoming and diverse

community with a wide variety of cultural activities, events, and industries.

Purdue University is an EOE/AA employer. All individuals, including minorities, women,

individuals with disabilities, and veterans are encouraged to apply.
