Colleagues,

I want to pass on some very sad news. Sieghard Beller died recently. Many of you will know Sieghard as an active member of CSS and active researcher. Sieghard, along with several colleagues, organized and edited two topics for Topics in Cognitive Science; ``Should Anthropology be part of Cognitive Science’’ (2012) and ``Exploring Cognitive Diversity: Anthropological Perspectives on Cognitive’’ and was busy working on a third topic at the time of his death, ``The cultural evolution of cognition.’’

Sieghard was a very quiet man who was also very modest, tending to believe that it was the work, not the person that mattered. One of his concerns after he took sick was whether he would be able to finish the paper he was writing and he worried about who would be able to step in and handle the final steps of editing the papers for his most recent topic. Of course, his wife, Andrea Bender, did her best but she was busy with Sieghard so Fiona Jordan stepped in to handle the reviews and edits of the remaining papers. Likewise our Managing Editor, Caroline Verdier, helped make this transition as easy as possible, I am sure Sieghard would have been pleased by how well his last topic has been handled and we are pleased and honored to be the custodians of his last work.
