Please pass on to relevant prospective graduate school applicants, especially in linguistics, psychology, neuroscience, and computer science:

As part of the ILST initiative<http://web.sas.upenn.edu/langscience/> within MindCORE<https://mindcore.sas.upenn.edu/>, the University of Pennsylvania offers a Language and Communication Sciences certificate program<http://web.sas.upenn.edu/lcs/> for doctoral students working in the language sciences. CIS, Linguistics, Neuroscience, and Psychology are the core participating departments in which class-work is to be taken, and students have the opportunity to work with a wide range of interdisciplinary language researchers across departments. See the LCS website<http://web.sas.upenn.edu/lcs/> for further details.

Through funding from ILST, students entering the program receive a Research Fund Stipend. In addition, there is a small grant program<http://web.sas.upenn.edu/lcs/small-grants/small-grant-application/> for individual projects, workshops, etc. through ILST.
Participation in the Language and Communication Sciences Program requires admission to one of Penn’s Ph.D. programs. If you are applying to one and wish to be considered for the LCS Program, please email the LCS Director, Professor Florian Schwarz, florians(at)ling.upenn.edu. In addition, please include the following sentence at the end of your Personal Statement in your graduate application: “I wish to be considered for the Graduate Certificate Program in Language and Communication Sciences.”
(Anyone that has already submitted their application and would like to apply can still email me stating their interest.)
Information on the online application process for the different schools at Penn can be found here: School of Arts and Sciences<https://www.sas.upenn.edu/graduate-division/admissions> (e.g., for Anthropology, Biology, Linguistics and Psychology); School of Engineering<http://www.seas.upenn.edu/prospective-students/graduate/admissions/> (e.g., for Computer and Information Sciences), and School of Medicine<http://www.med.upenn.edu/bgs/applicants_phd.shtml> (e.g., for Neuroscience)

The deadline for graduate school applications for fall 2019 is December 15th.
